Journal Part 1:
Beginning of a story
- A man wants to ask a woman out on a date. The woman wants him to ask her out. What's stopping him and what/who gets in their way? - A man at work has started to get along really well with one of his new coworkers that work downstairs. Every day they arrive at work at the same time and get in line at the coffee cart. They have friendly chats as they wait for their coffee and slowly start to get to know one another. Although the man is a little apprehensive to ask her out he decides that a nice cup of coffee at a cafe a little ways from work won't do much harm. As the man tells another fellow coworker at work about his plans to ask a woman out he tells him how she may be seeing someone. Confused has she has never brought up having a partner to the man before his coworker explains that she goes down to the lobby every day and awaits for a man to give her her lunch at break. Defeated the man decides to go down during break as well to see for his own eyes if she is truly taken. Alas, he sees her waiting and a man walking in to give her her lunch. Retreating back to his floor he runs into her in the elevator. She starts up a friendly conversation as they always do and she tells him how her brother always drops off lunch for her. Relieved he starts to ask her out when his boss enters the elevator. Retreating to himself once again he remembers the rules of his office that coworkers aren't allowed to date for fear of conflict. Saddened by this he returns to his floor. His supervisor calls him into his office where he explains he is up for a promotion. Ecstatic he thanks his supervisor but not before he can explain how another coworker is also up for this promotion. The status of this new job would require him to be in a different division which means he could date the woman. But only if he can get this promotion instead of his coworker.

The strange man finally walked into my store. It wasn't hard to spot him because word had already traveled of a visitor in our small town. When a town is this small, everyone knows your business. I bet Dave from across the street is already calling everyone informing them that the strange man stopped at my donut shop. As I peek my head out from around the kitchen in the back I finally hear the bell on my front desk being rung and know he's coming for something. I dust off my apron but not before checking my phone that alerts me that I've gotten a message. It's from my town's group chat with a bunch of us shop owners, so it's not a very big group chat.
Dave: Mindy, be careful the strange man is inside your shop now. He's already stopped at Al's repair shop to drop off his motorcycle and my Liquour store you better be careful he bought some strong rum.
Mindy: Don't worry Dave he's just here for some sweets he'll be in and out in a split.
I slip my phone into my pocket and head to the front but am taken aback by the look of this stranger. Dressed from head to toe he's in all cowboy apparel. Now we may be a small town but we sure as hell aren't cowboys by any means.
"Hi there sorry for the wait how can I help you today!" I say in a friendly manner. He may be a stranger but that doesn't mean I gotta do him any harm.
"Hello there madam, are you the only shop in town that sells sweets?" the strange man asks. Again I am taken aback as he speaks in a proper English accent. I don't know British accents very well but he doesn't speak like a cowboy that's for sure.
"Well unless you want some candy from Max's market down the street I'm the only sweets you'll find around here," I say pointing out the window.
"Sweet indeed," he mumbles under his breath. He looks down at the selection of donuts I have laid out and I try my hardest not to blush at his little comment.
"I see you're looking at our chocolate divine it's quite good I made it myself fresh this morning," I say leaning a bit over the counter to point the donut out.
"You work here all by yourself?" he questions tipping his hat up to look down at me.
"Yes I own this here shop," I remark proudly.
"And this is all you want, a donut shop?" Looking up at him confused I stare at his face as I try to understand where he is going with this.
"Pardon me sir but I am quite happy with my shop here. I may not be some stranger driving around on my motorcycle from town to town living a life of adventure but I made something of myself and I am proud of it." I blurt out. This time he looks taken aback but then he lets out a soft chuckle.
"By no means madam did I mean to offend you. You have quite the darling shop in this little town but you don't strike me has this small-town girl. Pardon me for being so bold but you look like you should be living the life of adventure." He pulls out his wallet and hands me the money for the donut. I take it in my hand and ring him up as I ponder on his words silently.
"This isn't the life I wanted for my life and I settled. But that doesn't mean I'm not happy. Does going around on adventures make you happy? Is that the life you pictured for yourself?" I ask him as I hold his donut in hand.
" Yes, it does make me happy. I was stuck in a small town and after my family passed I had nothing left for me there. So I picked up everything and left and I haven't looked back since. Now, madam, I won't bore you with my whole life story but if you want we could both munch on a chocolate divine and I can tell you how I left." And with that, I grabbed another chocolate divine for myself as we sat down and he told me how he lives a life of adventure.
